(1) Passengers and Luggage Clearance Procedures

(1-1)      Arriving Passengers: 

(a)  Guidelines:

1.     It is advisable to reduce to minimum the number of baggage and luggage carried by the passenger in order to facilitate the search process and expedite departure from ports and airports.

2.     Baggage shall be arranged and packed in a manner that renders easy the search process and keeps properties away from damage, taking into consideration that the contents of baggage should be known in full.

3.     Number of luggage carried by the passenger shall be reasonable and doesn’t exceed personal use, as possible.

4.     Heavy luggage shall be shipped by air, land, or sea, whereas only personal items shall be carried by the passenger in order to avoid delays upon arrival.

5.     Passenger shall avoid bringing banned and prohibited goods such as alcohols, poisons, narcotics, pornographic photos, immoral recorded materials, items used in gambling, weapons, ammunition…etc (only if an authorization is obtained).

6.     Sudanese embassies abroad shall be contacted before departure in order to be acquainted with the decisions, procedures, and new restrictions concerning passengers and imports.

7.     It is advisable to read posters or listen to announcements directing and guiding arriving passengers.

8.     Passengers shall ensure that the passports, migration, and nationality procedures are completed.

 

(b) Luggage Clearance Procedures:

1.     Passport and all luggage tags shall be presented to the customs officer before starting the search process.

2.     Questions in connection with the contents of baggage or any other questions addressed by the customs officers shall be replied to before and upon the search process.

3.     No information requested by the customs officer shall be concealed; otherwise the person shall be held accountable before law.

4.     When bringing items which are subject to customs duties, through customs office lounges (halls), the arriving citizen shall pay duties in hard currency, if possible, or hand them over against Customs Form (59) stamped and signed certified, with the view of completing later the procedures.

5.     When finding banned or prohibited items or in case of giving wrongful declaration, such items shall be seized in accordance with Customs Form (33) (Seizure Notice), and original copy of the same shall be delivered to the concerned person after he/she signs the same. The person may submit to the Director of the respective customs office a claim, in writing, to terminate the seizure within three months as of the date of signing the declaration. In case of elapse of the said period without submitting a claim, right to that effect shall be cancelled.

6.     Arriving person shall take all his/her belongings before departing the hall.
